Next to a stile on a footpath between the back of the school and Field Farm. It looks short as if it has been pushed down into the ground. Perhaps it has sunk because the earth is soft or the ground around it has gradually raised up. Fortunately the FB is completely visible, slightly dug out. Good views to the south across flat countryside.

Because I left along Metheringham Fen Ln from Tanvats (the last trig) I think I went the long way around to get to this one. But it is a lovely day and I even went over a railway line where you have to phone the signaler to check it is safe. Just before you get to Billinghay there is a FP sign that takes yo straight to the Trig, behind some houses on a fence line between two fields. Trig is all in good order.

A simple walk allong the footpath brought us to the pillar at the side of a stile. Appears to be in good condition but has possible sunk a bit since construction. The original plug has gone it is protected from the weather with a concrete replacment.

Using a slightly out-of-date Landranger map I decided to try accessing the trig from the ‘end’ of Field Road. It was obvious the housing estate had recently been expanded so I parked up and took a quick walk round using GPS to head in the general direction. This brought me to a grassy gap between two houses which was fenced off at the end, less than 50m from the trig. Frustrated I set off back to the B1189 and parked beside the last house in the village. From here I walked into the field and 400yds across the grass behind the houses to the trig. The pillar is just on the west side of a wooden fence, at the end of a short N-S hedge, and is in good condition with a tarmac plug. The flush bracket is partially buried but thankfully no digging was required to read the number. All sightholes are below ground level. Position logged from GPS device accurate to ±5m.

The area around here has been developed in the last year or so. As a result the OS is a bit out and I had to head in from the school end of the public footpath. The local farmer I talked to told me that the tracks marked are private and will remain closed even when the houses are finished. The pillar is easy to find and in good condition even though it is a bit low in the ground.
