Original visit 22 Mar 2014 inconclusive. Revisit after obtaining the trig station details from the National Archive. This shows the mark to have been on a square drain cover, on the S side of the road opposite to No 70, and adjacent to the kerb. There was a X cut at the SE corner of the frame. There is still a drain at this location. Cleared snow and ice from the cover. The metal surround appeared too narrow to have been used. The cover itself would seem unlikely although there was a moulded arrow at the SW corner to indicate the correct orientation. Checked all the corners; various dents and scratches in the metal but nothing resembling a trig mark.

Cut Bench Mark was on the side of the "Belle Vue" Public house (demolished) which stood on this sight. Replaced by housing. http://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm45983

SE22 T285 CUT. GR puts this about 1m into the rough grass cover not far from a 6" square metal valve cover. Does anyone actually know what a cut is. We don't seem to be having much luck finding these things. The choice of site is obvious as its a gap in the housing that has a wide panoramic view. The rough ground appears to be the remains of drives or garages so perhaps whatever it is was cut into that. We check all the metal work, the pavement, the kerbs to no avail. One day we will find one.

Ashbrow Road is there a cut on this grid which we could not see
