Walked from the layby south of Sundaysight after visiting Midhopelaw Pike. A bit of a trudge to be honest and some thick rank heather and long grass to go through. Huge views from the top, even through to Skiddaw so not all bad.

3rd visit, to take Grid Ref reading. 3rd different route - along PW from the S till we reached the Finger Post at 361m and heather bashed our way due W to the TP; returned via Grey Stone to Whitley Pike then back S along PW to start - in total 5.85 miles. It was dry enough today but might not recommend this route after prolonged period of wet weather! I had hoped that the heather, like the weather today, might have been brighter but it was all a bit drab, but couldn't spoil the fabulous views from here. At Whitley Pike met a lovely young family of 4 from Whitley Bay (how appropriate!) on their way to the pillar, they use this site for reference but don't log their achievements on it - hello again! ~~ 15/03/21 2nd visit, different route - from the cattle grid to the N, then followed fence line to 'The Grey Stone' and short heather-bash from there. I'm convinced that somewhere between Blackmoor Skirt and Blackwool Law just 5 miles N of here is the legendary lost Trig Point of Black Wool Skirt...

Back to Northumberland today after a week on Mull. 1 of 5 logs 3 of which are trigs. Awful weather to start and route as others. Trig is marked within access land. An absolute swamp at the moment and my walking boots were compromised and soaked within minutes for the rest of the day. Parked as others near the Pennine Way sign in the layby. About a 2 3/4 mile return walk to the trig plus another 1 mile return walk to get closer to Paddon Hill for a photograph.

Same route as previous log. The walking is a bit rough with some bad boggy areas just off the road. We walked on the northside of the fence which is easier to walk once you reach the heather near the top. A broken down gate near the top gives easy access the summit.

Route and parking the same as Nick & Roise below. The road is a bit rough in places but is ok, i've driven on far worse in the Highlands. There is no where to turn around if you have anything bigger than a golf buggy so i just continued north along it to the junction and back to the A68.

Took a look at the gated road to the west of the pillar and wasn't going to risk damage to the new car so plumped for parking north of the pillar and taking the Pennine Way to the first stile then followed the fence to within a couple of hundred metres of the trig. Very dry over the last few weeks otherwise I guess this route would be very boggy. Decent views.

Well worth the off piste drive along a rarely used road. Parked next to a cattle grid. 1hr return walk. The trig point showed all the signs of a sturdy piece of cement and very little pollution. Lovely heather moorland.

Sorry to cast aspirsions on the comments below by caroleengle, but the road from the south that runs N from Sundaysight really ISN'T all that bad, 4x4 or otherwise (certainly no worse than the road that leads up to Coldtown Beacon for example)...There is a gate due W of the TP along this road, on the N side of the gate is a good parking spot where a PROW leads off NW towards Highgreen Manor (an amazing looking building if you get to drive back S past that). From here just follow the fence line on its N side directly up the hillside due E, just before the brow of the hill is reached there is a wooden gate in the fence after which the new-ish pigwire becomes rusty barbed wire. Cross S over the gate and then head SE through the heather to the TP, which offers great 360 views.

Do NOT drive along the minor road to west signed Sundaysight unless you have a 4X4. The road is appalling past the gate at NY818900 (northerly direction), where there is no room to park or turn round. Accessed trig from from Pennine Way, parking at cattle grid where the route crosses the road to the north (after recovering from the drive past Sundaysight in my A1). The moorland is not bad compared to the Kielder Forest area
