Approached from the motocross track. No obvious path from the track but stiles and signs once in the fields. Easy to access and find.

3rd and final trig of today's hike. I approached it from the North having been to Thieveley Pike. I had an issue following the footpath through Harrowstiles Farm. The inebriated farmer came out telling me that there is no right of way through his yard and that the OS maps are of no interest to him because he has maps that are "hundreds of years old" which confirm his version. The path in question is FP1401237. I had to take a detour through a heavily waterlogged field (for which he actually apologised for the state of). Another path on his land which he has clearly obstructed is FP1401238. The rest of my route was relatively ok. The pillar is in good condition and a great location. I proceeded east back to Burnley Road and my car.

walked from thieveley pike. path not easiest (boggy) good views north,west and east. to be honest thieveley pike was a bit better for views!

From School on A671 Followed lane and ROW to Trig which is situated in an area of rough grazing close to a wall and fence, the Trig is in good condition , the cap is filled with tar, foundations on show, views not seen misty

HISTORY: Pillar built in May 1948 costing £9.16s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE02/T5 during 1948. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in October 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from east. Parked on west side of A671 at SD869247. Note the unclassified yellow road up the back (Bacup Old Road) is potholed above wheel depth. Followed mapped RoW network starting from lane beside school. Pillar in good condition, on sound foundation block. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces northwest, ~303°. Vented through SW sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view.

Drove down Bacup Old Road and parked along side track just of north of footpath. Went along footpath and found trig in far right corner of field. View was Ok.

Asphalt plug. Public, as at a crossroads of public footpaths. These paths are not very evident on the ground. Ascent or descent via Long Dike not recommended - lower down, this is a slough of despond.

Agree on the comments about the yellow road to the east - awful surface, lots of potholes. Also approached from the north, parked opposite the Deerplay Inn. Much of the moor sodden. Left the car in thick mist, arrived back in sunshine.

Tucked away in field corner by a stile and signpost. Don't miss it and walk around in circles for ages like I did. Situated on a plateau of grazing land. Little of interest and footpaths very indistinct. Base erroded.

I approached from the North, from the Deerplay pub along the path, Long Dike and Dean Height. Its not a particularly attractive area, just flattish hilltop farmland.

I thought the direct track up from the road would be a right of way but, having scrambled over hedge cuttings and other rubbish, decided that maybe it wasn't. Trig on a large plinth; tarmac plug. Views towards Winter Hill, Darwen tower and Bacup, but unremarkable.
