Another great CJO find! Metal rod marker in block, in obvious depression with stones directly over trig, easy 30cm dig in soft soil. 5m from pole, 4m SW from centre of track, 3m from edge of field. Access from SE still easy, parking in farm access road on RoW, no further developments on site with fields freshly cultivated

Visited whilst on day out with Painterman61, site easily found but took some digging.

Parked at the farm gate a short walk to the area with no developments as yet. Had to dig out the deep block rod type, spotted a benchmark on the old farmhouse.

No progress on housing redevelopment as yet but the nearby farmhouse is empty and boarded-up. Easy access from the road via the footpath which appears to terminate at Sniperley Hall. CJO's marker post was a great help in identifying the site. Took a while to cut through roots and re-excavate the block with a trowel. Handle found then rod. The OS 'History of Retriangulation' mentions that, with lower order stations, scrap iron would sometimes be incorporated in a block to make detection easier. So this trig seems to have the economy version of a concrete ring.

Metal rod-like rivet in concrete block with some scrap iron surrounding embedded in the concreted, including a handle. Approx 30 cm north of ruinous fence. 5 m east of electrical transmission post. 5.1m east from its cable stay. 9m west from v/x-shaped (see photo) fence post. Found approx 45 cm deep. Bellway Homes have purchased the land so this one won’t be here that much longer.

Transmission post and cable stay. 5m and 5.1m from these along fence line
v/x-shaped fence post with barbed wire - 9m west from here along fence line
Rod type - disappointing after all the digging required!
Required some digging to find
Concrete block with metal stuff embedded, including a handle
As left. Back filled most of hole with soil, filled hole above block with turf cuts and inserted fence post with a nice mossy top and then added the only two rocks found.
Thing to look for
