Slight detour on local dog walk. Someone had taken the top big stones off so it was relatively open. Covered with flat rock again.

S corner of arable field in grassy margin, top slab was under grass but easily found. Another great CJO find. Easy access from W. Have seen another CR with metal rod marker, Isle of Man perhaps

From Durham via the rail trail towards Esh Winning. Obvious hole easier to re-excavate than expected - all the hard work already done by CJO. Concrete ring with rod marker. Dry conditions so no bailing necessary, but rain approaching. Left with stone slab reinstated. Quiet views.

Parked at NZ 212 424 and walked along a good path SW above Rag Path Wood. Easily found but you have to lift a lot of heavy stones out of the hole. Great find Chris deepest one I've seen yet plus the only Rod type one as well. Good views but dull and cool today.

Located 74cm deep in NE corner of wall junction. 0.9m N and 1.0 m E of corner walls, slight depression visible on surface. Seemed a logical place to dig. Clear markings in concrete ring, rivet in concreted block-like base, off centre. Dug out mostly rubble and soil (unconsolidated). Back-filled with rubble and large stones. Capped with v large stone. Scored 10 for the effort required to dig this out.

As left. Ring beneath flat rock. Lots of excavation debris
Says .... Ordnance Survey Trigonometrical Station
Unusually a rod-type and not a bolt.
Clear lettering in ring.
