Parked on lane, and walked towards farm buildings. Was met by a chap who asked me what I was looking for. On replying 'a trigpoint', he happily pointed me down the farm track to the right. The trigpoint has been resited on the left of the track just beyond the farm buildings at the edge of the field. Easy bag.

Driving up Smithy Lane & parking aside the farm buildings on the right, where the 'office' is located though at the time I hadn't noticed it to be an office, I went in search of Mr Farmer to seek permission to access his trig point. After a minute or two of my wandering about he appeared obviously having seen or heard me from his office. By all accounts his son was the farm owner but out, nevertheless after chatting for ten minutes or so he granted me access telling me where it was. This is only my third permission sought trig & as with my first (but not second...Knowsley Hall where access was abruptly denied) the experience was a most pleasent one...Phillip was extremely nice! I think i'm correct in saying that this particular trig has been 'adopted' by Brow Farm such that it no longer belongs to The Ordnance Survey. Perhaps all trigs on private land are 'adopted' I don't know but for this particular trig 'life goes on'... It's been re-located (having suffered mis-haps consequence of farm vehicles) in a more tranquil place, it's been re-painted a gleaming white such that it can be seen from the International Space Station & it can be viewed by all who ask permission at the farm office.

Delighted to advise that the farmer has re-erected the pillar which is now positioned to the rear of the farmhouse. Although there is a PROW through the centre of the farm, please call at the farm office to request permission to visit the pillar Dont know why my photo's are always wrong way around !!!

Trig is still on It's side on a pallet in the farm yard waiting to be re-erected. The very knowledgeable and friendly farmer showed me where he plans to put it; behind his buildings, on the edge of the field it originally sat, within sight of his farmhouse. Not many trigs in this area, so nice to know this one is still loved.

Set on the West Lancs plane on a farm that also breeds peafowl. The pillar was accidentally toppled by a satellite-directed combine harvester and has been placed at the side of the field for the time being until it is repositioned. Friendly farmer commented that people trampled across his lettuce crop during lockdown to reach the pillar!

Brow Farm pillar Sadly toppled, but the intention is to raise it at the corner of the field enabling access to visitors.©Skypaddler
