Parked on the grass at the fork in the road up to the farm. Knocked on the door at the house but no answer. Like Mark-UKUS easy walk up the lane and hop over the gate.

Planned to bag this one whilst my wife visited the plant nursery but they were closed so we both wandered off down the farm track. Knocked on the farmhouse door, and we could see someone through the kitchen window, but no one answered and a quick look around the back proved fruitless to get permission. Hope we didn't worry an elderly resident. Anyhow, we weren't told no, so carried on to the reservoir gate. An easy hop over and a stroll around the access points was sufficient to cover the long lost location of the pillar. Nice views, especially of the Northern Pennines.

Wandered in from the E, grass verge parking. Resr is low security providing easy access, met farmers herding cows down the lane on the way out - they were not impressed. Trig is a tricky one to reconcile as the pillar and bolt have identical GRs provided by the OS, down to 2 decimal places, yet the existing 1" dia bolt bears no relation to either the lower or upper bolt in a pillar. In addition very unlikely a pillar would have been installed on the raised concrete area which is currently populated with vent covers. The bolt is clearly OS, but the GRs provide a conundrum.

The footpath is odd. At the N end, the map appears to indicate that it goes through someone's garden. Easier to take the field gate then follow the hedge down. Midway theres a maintained stile with a footpath sign. Detouring slightly off the path, through a gateway leads to the reservoir perimeter. The scratchy hedge flanked by a fence on each side was a bit tricky. Bolt between hatch covers on top of the reservoir easily located. The adjacent concrete just looks like concrete to me; don't think its trig-related.

1" bolt on concrete access chamber between covers, IS state Pillar dest 07/60, changed to bolt 1966. Same coordinates for both. Concrete exposed beside SW corner of chamber looks quite trig pillar like, might be worth excavating although seems unlikely there would be sufficient soil depth for a toppled pillar

Gained access to the covered reservoir. The GPS indicated some form of hatch, from which emanated the sound of moving water. Took some photos and returned from whence I came.

Missing since 1960. On a reservoir, had a look but no sign of it. Followed a long farm access road, goml signed, even though a footpath terminates on it. This is a particularly annoying goml tactic, abusing an ambiguity in RoW classification , and is now becoming very common. At the junction of the footpath and road there was a police car parked up.
