From Windermere station, path along S side of main road to the SW end of Mislet Lane then up the fell via gates and a gap in a broken wall. Breezy/chilly/cloudy morning; the sun decided to shine on other hills today. Large bolt with an unusually rough surface, readily located from CJO's description. Mini-cairn rebuilt. Tarnished coin still present; added a Portuguese 50 cent so as to confuse any archaeologists who might visit in the future. Continued to Orrest Head for views of Windermere.

A stile at SD 4256 9891 to the North of the busy main road leads to complete access to the fell summit without any walls to climb. Easily found the bolt under the cairn and the two witness rivets.Super find Chris and bagging assistant. Icy wind at the sunny summit area with a full panoramic view with a dusting of snow on the high mountains nice old trig pivot and many benchmarks found in the area.

Found under 1 inch of moss in the back SE corner of wind shelter-like cairn. A cold morning with snow on distant summits. 2.5 inch bolt with tarnish that suggests it has been on the surface for a while. Found a well tarnished 1p coin next to it. Built a box-like cairn round it and covered with a large flat stone to make access easy. Also found two witness rivets on rocks c. 10.5m to northish in line with wall junction, and 6.5m to south in line with highest point of adjacent hill.

Could easily see where Rob had dug. I spent 90min looking in other spots but with no more success. Pretty sure its not on the very top.

Set up my GPS on S edge of shelter cairn, it initially indicated 2m S, then 0, then 2m N, over the course of a sunny hour spent up there. A few trial holes to S failed to score. Inside the shelter cairn seems most likely location, no reason for it to be there other than to mark trig location, likely been built higher over the years. Some sizeable rocks though, my trowel broke, eventually gave up. Easy approach from N to covered resr but then a wall to cross, maybe best approached from SSW

GR puts it approx 5m SW of the small shelter cairn. Had a token prod of the ground - no digging was undertaken.
