From Hem Gill Shaw, exactly 6 miles there and back over bone dry ground, stunning views, superb weather, poignant war memorial; the sort of walk that is utterly life reaffirming.

First of 3 trigs on a 14.5 mile walk from Kettlewell to Buckden Pike, Firth Fell and Middlesmoor Pasture. Beautiful clear sunny day but too cold to stop for any length of time. Frozen ground helped with boggy areas.

Another revisit to an old favourite on a windy, misty day. We walked from Starbotton up to Buckden and returned via the memorial cross, before a stunning bit of lunch in The Bluebell in Kettlewell. Pillar condition unchanged from my last visit.

Walked up the main path from Buckden, a very enjoyable hike despite quite a bit of bog trotting along the way. Although it wasn't the clearest of days, the views from the summit were still very impressive. Continued along the summit path to visit the memorial cross before descending.

A stunning revisit on a glorious crisp, cold winter's day. Walked up via Buckden Gill and returned via Cray and Hubberholme. Pillar is in good condition, with the central crack repair still intact.

Good off-road parking at SD 9861 7572 (near the Hem Gill Shaw passive rivet). Soggy track leads up, upper part is paved. Pillar sits at, or near, the hill summit. The original centre cap has gone, an asphalt plug seals the centre tube; LHS sight hole open. Cloud down, no views.

Visited during circuit of Wharfedale Three Peaks, last of four trig pillars bagged, though I went up Buckden Pike at least once many years ago. Climbed from the Cam Gill Road having dropped off Great Whernside as night was falling. A horrible, boggy slog frankly, with care required above 1800’ because of heavy icing. Stopped for a brew on the top, it was Arctic.

Walked from Kettlewell on circular via Tor Mere Top and returned via Dales Way from Buckden. A foul day with driving drizzle, and hill fog. So much for Bank Holiday Monday. Didn't even bother to get a photograph. There is a crack all the way around the trig point about half way up. (Been to summit before and in better weather)

Visited as I was surveying the two stiles nearby as to their condition on behalf of the YDNP. A cold, bright day with a 2 inch covering of snow on the summit which I reached by way of the lead mines. This is a route I have never used before, making the walk all the more interesting.

Parked south side of pass over into Bishopdale at about 944802, walked along horizontal bench and then turned up steep grass to the summit, picking up the path from Buckden for the final stretch. Ascent was along wall south of Cow Close Gill, descent on the Gill's north bank.

Main defect is a continuous horizontal crack at half height, that goes all around pillar. there are a few chips & other cracks. Spider has tar plug. Good views - Pen-Y-Ghent, Ingleborough, etc.

From Buckden up the Rake to Trig which is situated close to a wall and a cairn with attendant pole. Its slightly damaged with what appears to be a crack halfway up, it sits on blocks of stone and its white paint is fading, The Cap is filled with Tar , Two sight holes open and the Flush Bracket faces 120`Views 360 not seen due to low cloud return via Walden Rd and Dales Way

Another midrift cracked trig - no wonder as the winds blow...feel very smug, left the calamity of weather around Westmorland Hotel (usual stopover for our Cumberland/Westmorland jaunts-from where you get a fine bedroom view of Northside trig!), through stormy Mallerstang and just manage a mainly dry and stunning walk up and down from Buckden - before heavy rain whiteout arrives - a fine unusually tidy Yorkshire Yoredale series "mountain"

From Buckden via the rake path then up to the lead mine. up in an hour. Swirling clouds and inversion strange injury to pillar, suspect something to do with frost. A fine view and the first of three pillars for me today. very wet going though. Path alongside Buckden beck well worth investigating. very fine waterfalls.

September Camp Day 3 of 3. What a great end to the holiday. Fantastic walk from Kettlewell up the "Emmerdale" road to Cam Head. Some old school bog hopping to the memorial for the polish airmen then onto the summit. Heroic views from this Yorkshire giant if its clear you can pick out the fells and dales across much of the national park and way way beyond......Big crack runs around the pillar and it has a filled in plug. Descent to Buckden for a couple at the Inn and then down Dales Way back to Kettlewell. 13.5 miles of brilliance.

A frosty morning under clear blue skies. Soon warmed and breathing heavily with the long steep climb from Kettlewell. It would be hard to find a clearer view. Is the pillar at its original site - it looks like it is sat upon a small plinth of stones rather than being firmly bonded to a large concrete foundation! A large crack circles pillar above FB.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 19th July 1949 costing £42.14s.4d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SE38/22 within the Harrogate block during 1955. Levelled for height also in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in July 1976. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Parking off road at SD987757, just NE of cattle grid, same parking used for Great Whernside. Up via Tor Mere Top folllowing boundary walls all the way. Pillar in fair condition, large horizontal crack across trunk, foundation crumbling. Spider centre filled with tar. Flush bracket faces southeast, ~126°. Vented through NE & SW sight holes. Full 360° open view.

A beautiful sunny morning with cloudless sky and excellent views. Unfortunately the 'plonker' who was manning the 'Fellsman' checkpoint at this location wasn't very good at his job and had 'lost' 15 hikers! We therefore spent 25 minutes at the summit while the paperwork was reconciled admiring the far-reaching views but slowly freezing up as it was real 'brass-monkey' weather.

Parked in Buckden then walked to Firth Fell trig then down into the village of "starBottom" then me and "Rocky" paid a visit to Buckden Pike trig before walking back to the car park in Buckden.

A 14 mile walk from Kettlewell taking in Great Whernside & Buckden Pike. Good view back to Great Whernside & to the 3 peaks. No one on the summit which was a pleasant surprise. Descended by the pitched bridleway down to Buckden then followed Dales way back to Kettlewell.

Quite a long slog up from the White Lion at Cray but the weather was good. Been up before but not since I started this strange hobby. Trig generally good but with horizontal crack right round it and plug filled in. Walked along the ridge to the Polish memorial.

Reversed our 13.4 mile route of March 5th. This time starting at Kettlewell and going to Buckden Pike, Bucken, Firth Fell and back to Kettlewell. Clear day with brief flurries of snow at times - rain held off, lovely day.

Nice sunny afternoon walked up on the main tourist track plenty out walking today. Trig has slight damage,ashphalt plug faded white paint also there is a large rounded cairn and pole afew meteres away. Walked down via memorial cairn to ww2 aircrash then waterfall and lead mine route very clear views today.

Good climb from Buckden, went onto do Little Wherside,and Great Whernside! Excelent weather, hot too. Came back red as a cooked Lobster!

Got a nice person to take a pic of me at the Trig! Hot day, was a good climb at 702m. But was quickly on towards the memorial cross, and then over the peat bogs to Little Whernside and Great Whernside.

Far less snow than last time I was here earlier in the year. Walked up from Buckden via Buckden Beck Fall and the lead mines - a great route with wonderful waterfalls. Returned via the Memorial Cross and Starbotton. Accompanied by wife and boys.

Trig is cracked around the centre and the Spider cap is obviously missing but otherwise 8 out of 10 for the location alone. For my untrained Southern legs this was a reasonably arduous climb but well worth it. Whilst staying at the Heber farm campsite in the village of Buckden down below I walked up to log this trig and then carried on to visit the Polish air crash memorial and then continued on down into Starbotton and carried on along side the River Wharfe following the Dales Way footpath back to Buckden village. The O/S website lists the computing year as 1955 and the height a/s/l at 701.954 metres (2303 feet).

A hard slog through knee high snow from Kettlewell took 3.5 hours (about 1.5 hours longer than normal). Fantastically clear, bright sunny day but temperature did not get above -5C.

Enjoyed the walk up from the car park in Buckden village, but on the middle part of the ascent the ground was unbelievably boggy even in summer. Super views over Coverdale, looking down to the village of Cray. Steep final ascent was well worth it - did this walk with 5 and 6 year old daughters and they felt real achievement (me too!) Would walk Buckden Pike again for sure!

Score seriously affected by weather which is wet and windy with occasional breaks in the cloud.. Time approx. Happy to see the trig as it means the rain has eased a bit, though I can see very little. The last bit of the footpath up from Buckden via the Rake is a steep pull. The diverted path on this side of the wall as you head south to the Polish War Memorial is to be recommended (as mentioned by others) rather than the morass on the other side. Descent to Coverdale Pass is juicy in places (but nowhere near as soggy as the north side of Nidderdale.)

Walked along the ridge from Newbiggin and along to Kettlewell via this trig as day 2 of our 4 day 80km DofE award route. Trig looked in good condition, but soil around the base was very eroded, as is the path up to it on the east side of the wall. Asphalt type plug, possibly (didnt record) southern sight hole open.

After the recent rain the summit was pretty boggy, so the walk from the trigpoint to the memorial cross involved a lot of leaping and cursing. The car park at Buckden was full, but there was no one but me at the top of the hill, which was nice. Great view

Parked near the waterfall at Cow Pasture, and came up via the geocache on the way. Didn’t hang around on the top because the weather was closing in – it was blowing a howling gale and we could see the rain approaching from the west. A bit boggy on the top, although no worse than we’d seen on the way up. Trig is a bit crumbly in places, but the views make the climb well worth it.

A popular spot. I hadn't seen anyone on Yockenthwaite Moor but this was like Blackpool. The bog around the trig point is not as bad as that over the wall on the way to the memorial at Walden Head. Nor is it as bad as that surrounding Yockenthwaite Moor trig point.

Good views, the memorials worth a visit too. Done on a hike from Kettlewell to Buckden via Great Whernside, Hag Dyke and Buckden Pike. No cars, on foot.
