Parked to south at entrance to drive to High Banniscue. Walked back on the road to Easterside Farm, then up the footpath, and across the moor from one of the footpath posts on the summit plateau to reach the trig. Easily found, didn't need bailing. Decended the steep north side of the hill and looped back to the car via the footpath then bridleway past High Banniscue

Mapped and unmapped paths from S. Surrounded by low circular cairn and covered with rocks, easily removed, replaced afterwards. Ring partially filled with water. Hole where bolt should be, located by feel.

Moorsbus from York via Helmsley to Laskill. Good path up through bracken from Easterside Farm becoming indistinct further N. Obvious cairn; easy to uncover the concrete ring. Odd that the bolt has been removed or perhaps there never was one. All-round views. Steep hill - very hot day, older - no wiser. Return bus from Fangdale; hadn't expected to find a Flush Bracket on the church.

Had to dismantle cairn. A concrete ring 6 inch below ground level. Lots of broken glass and rusty cans. The centre bolt had been removed leaving a rough round hole.

Under south edge of cairn
Bolt gone
Nothing left in bottom of centre hole

Damaged
Rebuilt cairn in wind break style, leaving buried block accessible in centre under a few larger rocks, if you know to look under them!

It would have been great if the mist cleared and I could have found it! I think the block might have been below the cairn.

Under here somewhere?
