Garage in Woodhall closed (Sunday) so parked in the MOT space! Up the bridleway and then along the edge of access land to just north of the trig, where there's a convenient gate through the wall. Dug the trig out, and then replaced the stones + fence post. Great views up the dale. The route up passes through a fascinating closed valley with traces of a prehistoric field system and a lead mine with adit still open. A small beck along the valley disappears underground at the back of a scar.

The next visitor duly arrives on the following day. Thanks Painterman and Rob. Small cairn on highest part of crag. Bolt and ring easy to re-excavate. Mostly sunny day with strong wind. The hardest part of the visit was in finding the path through Carperby.

Parked in nearby village nice walk up very breezy, tough work digging out the rubble exceptional find Rob. Decided to pack out the ring with large rocks at base and top off with smaller stones for next visitor excellent views especially to Addleborough.

2 inch bolt under cairn, slightly E of centre leaving a slight depression, I dug down finding edge of concrete detector ring c.25cm then dug under cairn to expose bolt. Infilled with stones from excavation then soil then turf. Should be easy to re-excavate (I used good quality folding spade). Cairn left insitu. Accessed from SW, Woodhall (pity about the 'h'), RoW then old quarry track.

GR suggests a few m to the east of the cairn remains. A passing local said the cairn used to be a stone man. Everything prodded appeared to be bed rock. Its probably still there but its going to take some finding.
