Parked on road up Coverdale at juntion with road to Arkleside. Through hamlet and up tracks to ridge, then along fence to trig. Little Whernside looks an impressive flat-topped mountain from a distance but the summit plateau is a moonscape of peat haggs and hillocks. Lots of little rubble dams in the gullies, presumably in the hope of slowing erosion (one visible on one of our photos). Trig found with GPS and help of NJMs photos. No bailing needed. Then over to ring trig on Great Haw before returning to car. A 16km round trip which took nearly 5 hrs due to intermittent horizontal rain and long stretches of peat/heather moorland with bogs and haggs to avoid.

From Hem Gill Shaw took easy angled footpath ENE across Gt Whernside's NW flank, then NE along broad ridge to summit for a game of 'Where's the Ring?' It's not obvious, admit I cheated in the end and used the GPS. Turf flap replaced, bone dry up there, no bailing required today! With Ceri, only the second ever Concrete Ring for her, me & Storm.

Walked up from the Scar House Resr car park. Good track initially, then over rough ground. The block was immediately spotted at the Grid Ref, lifted out a big divot of turf and bailed out the water, replacing the turf after photographing... but not the water. Measured the bolt at 2 3/8" diameter. Didn't see CJO's boulder on the fence line, probably sunk in the peat... it's a mess up there.

Altitude 421m. Visited when on a benchmarking hunt. Parked at Cover bridge and walked up to Little Hunters Sleight and then over the top to the head of Angram reservior. Then to Scar House and up to here. Cracking weather and great views. WHen I was here last time I was looking for a buiried block so was very pleased to find the ring. Well done to previous visitors for discovering the ring.

From Kettlewell and back via the Cote de Park Rash. Little evidence found of the mapped bridleway ENE of Tor Dyke. Easier to follow the path up to the ridge at SD998742 then along the E side of the wall. Mostly good going until nearing the top of Little Whernside. Then a case of detouring to avoid the worst of the bog. Concrete Ring easily located from CJO's description. Bailing to expose the surface with limited success. Rain holding off.

It is still there! Concrete ring with bolt found with second prod. 2’ matt bolt. 30cm deep. 30.3 m due south of fence along peaty ridge. A square stone block at fence marks the right post from which to go due south.

Called on this block in passing - without any joy. I did a bit of probing at the correct cords and a couple of m either side but my waliking stick went full length into the peat/bog without meeting any obstruction at all.
