Visited whilst on old/new BM hunt in the area, a nice morning weather wise not what was forecast. I alighted the 08.25 Transdev 72 Skipton to Grassington bus at Grassington. I then walked the B6265 to pick up Hartlington Moor Lane through to the old disused Red Scar lead mine below Red Brow. I then followed the wall up from Black Cragg Moss to the summit. Then back down to Grimwith Reservoir via a good track over Long Hill/Gill Allotment, I stopped off for a well earned pint of Thatchers Gold at The Clarendon in Hebden before setting off back to Grassington for the 15.15 72 bus back to Skipton. All on a £4.50 KDay ticket another bargain day out.

GPS took me straight to metal sheet, then an inch of peat covering the metal rod marker, left clear with just the sheets on top. Circuit of Grimwith Resr from car park to SE, steeply up from old mine to W, descended SE via ATV track which starts at gate SE 0572 6536, access land all the way except last 100m where gate onto main track says Private.

The OS sketch was obtained in order to locate this trig. It showed three reference points on nearby rock outcrops - had expected these to be cut marks or else rivets but although the outcrops were easy to locate there were no witness marks evident. The OS record also mentioned "metal sheeting covers block" and this proved relatively easy to find with only a shallow covering of peat. Counting E to W, the block is approx 11ft from the top of the 2nd outcrop and approx 6ft from the top of the 3rd. Site approached via track to W side of reservoir, gate with barbed wire on top then plod through heather. Nice views with several other trig sites visible including Simon's Seat, Thorpe Fell and Meugher.
