Moorsbus from York via Helmsley to Fangdale Beck, good path onto the moor then detouring W to avoid the activity at the mast reconstruction site. Trig site with marker stone readily found; excavated to find large bolt deeply buried with the concrete ring directly above it. Impressive find by Team CJO. Dry, breezy, cool day.

Walked up the track to the mast via The Grange. Still lot of signs of work being done at the mast. Skirted the mast guy-wires to keep outside the public exclusion zone, and found the trig with no trouble. It's 20m from the centre of the tumulus. Only exposed the bolt as ring is full of sticky clay. Replaced a rock over it, then smaller stones and turfs so should be easy to uncover. OS carved stone put back standing in the hole.

Had this concrete ring on my radar for a while. A straightforward find thanks to the previous posts. A bit of digging is required to get access to the bolt. The hole has been filled in with rocks and heather, take a pair of good gloves with you. There is a post with OS carved onto it to help with identification.

Visited whilst on day out with Painterman61, we walked up on com's access road from the lay-by at The Grange to the East, we settled for just revealing the Bolt today.(Great find CJO).

Walked in from the lay by parking on the B 1257 at The Grange. Followed the road and then the very steep access road to near the transmitter station. had to bypass around as contractors were rigging the steel support cables today for the masts. Soon found the station but it was difficult to dig out the heavy clay and stones at the bottom so I settled for just digging out the shinny bolt today. Great views here today but a freezing bitter cold wind great find cjo and assistant.

Obvious rock filled hole beside soil pile S of tumulus. Under rocks is a layer of turf then soft soil to dig out, gardening gloves and folding spade ideal. Another great find CJO. Walked transmitter road from ESE, upper half km closed for construction works although notice suspending open access had expired in October and little happening on this misty January Saturday

2’ deep ring. Fortunately a stone on a heather mound had OS carved into it, so it didn’t take much skill to find this other than the Bagging Assistants bright eyes who spotted it. Approx 18 m towards mast from hollow tumulus centre and 34.5m east of prominent cuboid-shaped stone in line with white post marking grouse grit bin. A sunny winters day. 2” bolt in rough-cast bottom of ring.

As found - long rock has OS carved into it
OS marker
Location of cuboid stone 34.5m to west - CJO standing by it
Ring 2’ down
2” bolt
Towards tumulus to north
View from cuboid stone (foreground) to trig - CJO standing at GR
Partially back-filled hole and left OS stone protruding as marker

View from centre of tumulus towards masts - trig is 18m towards masts by pyramid of soil in photo - standing in centre of tumulus its c 120 degrees (clockwise) from due north

Had a look for this one. Got to logged coordinates and had a hunt around - did some probing with screwdriver and tent pegs. No Joy
