We parked up at the entrance to the farm and I planned to walk down to the farmhouse to ask permission when I saw the conveniently located gate. The dilemma: should I go and ask permission or just nip through the gate. If I ask permission, what if it isn't granted? so through the gate it was. Quite pleasant. Beer at the 8 Sail Brewery in Heckington afterwards.

Parked by entrance to farm. Through gate onto driveway, pillar immediately on right, south, in sheep pasture. New gate into field. Curious sheep watching as I went to the pillar. Probably thought I had brought them some food. Pleasant spot but no views.

Asked permission at farm which was readily given, very friendly. No horses in field, this may be due to the field being almost under water.

(678) Parked up on the wide farm entrance, then walked back to the farm itself. Permission was readily given to view the Pillar. Was told that the electric fence was switched off, which is always good to hear. One horse in the field, which followed me every step of the way, but then lost interest as I got to the pillar. Pillar history: Built on the 1st of October 1948, at a cost of £8 14s 8d. Last maintained by the OS in November of 1980.

A joint visit with Carole. Seeing that there has been some reluctance to enter the paddock because of it's nearness to the house we decided to go and ask if we could trespass. Permission readily given - thought that it had something to do with water levels. So easy access through the gate and luckily no resident horses. Pillar in good condition and still retains an original raised lettered plug.

In a small pasture enclosure just about 15 yards off a footpath leading into the farmyard. Today there were sheep in the pasture who didn't show any real interest as I nipped over the fence. Had to remove three large boulders from the top of the pillar in order to see that the plug is original with raised letters. No paint. All sightholes open. No views in any direction due to high hedges.
