Parked on grass at road end NX510567. Once the ford and gate S of Cambret had been negotiated headed straight for summit. Rough going most of the way, lots of heather at the top.

Very windy at the top, but the sun came out and it really brightened up on the way back down. Felt decidedly pleasant and springlike on the return to the car. Tried filming at the trig but conditions were not particularly Youtube worthy.

From halfway up mast access track to Cambret Hill, with Alex C. Pillar sits protected by stone walls approx 13m S of the summit cairn. One of a number of pillars in this area constructed without a flush bracket; top cap missing, asphalt replacement. Extensive panorama.

Nearly missed this one tucked in the corner at the confluence of two walls on the other side of the wall from Cairn Harrow summit cairn.

Came the long way round via Meikle Bennan and various hill tops. 5 hours, hard going coming up the NE side of Cairnharrow. Cap filled, otherwise sound.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 26th November 1954 costing £50.10s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX56/DM/T17 by distomat observation within the Kirkcudbright block during 1958. Levelled for height value at top of pillar also in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in May 1988. SITE VISIT: Parked at NX525546 where the badly maintained public road ends. Followed boundary line NE to shoulder of hill at NX535552 then turned northwards and headed up to summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Built without flush bracket. Northmost and southmost sight holes open. Long views to Lake District and Isle of Man.

vgc, built without FB; asphalt plug, in angle of wall corner. Fine view: snow above 300m. Parked at N end of minor road. On ascent, initially keep R of beeline for gate in wall. Aye Jimmy - retrospective congrats on your 700th :-)

A minor milestone - my 700th Marilyn. From the two earlier photos I was convinced there WAS a flush bracket, and that it had been overlooked... alas, there was no flush bracket, and never has been!

Cairnharrow TP has two open holes at base, facing the walls.
