A brisk last day on the island walk, round by compass hill then directly to trig. Boggy! Great views over to Skye. Quickly back down via campsite to get back to ferry. Great condition, cap intact.

Caught ferry from Mallaig to Canna via Rhum . Just enough time for a brisk direct route up to pillar .Not able to stay nearly as long as I would have liked at pillar . The views over to the Cuillens and to Rhum are quite magnificent and I think that this is my favourite pillar so far .. Just enough time to nip onto Sanday before rushing back to ferry …

vgc, cylindrical trig, metal cap, wide worn-looking lettering. Super island - world class. Calmac on a Saturday gets you 8 hours ashore - barely enough to cover Canna and Sanday. Visited S9737 too plus a dozen assorted summits.

Start of a long walk around the coastline of Canna on a day of great weather.

Superb views from the summit of this modest summit. I was very disappointed to discover Canna's highest point is not Compass Hill as it is much more distinctive than this plateau. Not all that easy to find. I walked from the east end of the island round to Tarbert where I crossed to the north and made my way east again - in scorching sunshine, so not very pleasant, but the views to the Outer Hebrides and Rum and over Canna and Sanday are spectacular. Descended down the valley rather than continuing eastwards due to extreme heat. Ice cream at farmhouse. Golden Plover en route.
