Overall approach from northeast. Parked in signed large layby on SW side of A835 at NH408688. Safe footpath leads to good bridge across Black Water (river) at NH406689. From there, followed the mapped forest track to its end at NH381680 then took a beeline route to summit. Forest has been clearfelled so there was the painstaking hike through the downtakings until reaching the deer fence then rough tussocky ground with random holes but with nice deciduous sapplings up to summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open, pillar built without flush bracket. Spider arm closest to perpendicular to an edge is above the SE face, compass measurement 123°. Vented through NE sight hole. The potential 360° view was lost to low cloud / fog.

A little harder than I anticipated but not impossible! From NE across new footbridge and up atv track which is disappearing by the day. Covered in heather, moss covered fallen trees and quite boggy and now trees are being planted over it! The old deer fence is now down but a new one which we had to climb has been built 300m up the hill. Quite a foggy day so our view was limited and I wasn’t able to stand on the pillar due to the wind. Maybe best to attempt it from the Loch side next time…..
