The finest way to ascend this hill is via Daear Ddu ridge from Llyn y Foel. A slight dusting of snow on the top and a tad icy on the rocks and clinging to the stone built pillar. Once off the top and on grass it was a smooth return to Capel via Plas Y Brenin path. I have to dedicate this to pillars/hills etc that can be done in winter and within reduced daylight hours. This 6 mile route took approx 4 hours. A good winters day.

Headed up from Dolwyddelan to Llyn Foel tarn then followed path SW around the ridge. Yes there is another way up without having to traverse the ridge, which I have done before but this way is much easier. Still a tiny bit of scrambling at the top but so much easier. Weather was amazing and the views nothing short of spectacular. Can see Snowden and the horse shoe from Pen-y-Pass. Trig is in pretty good order but could do with a bit of repointing so marking it as slightly damaged. Plug missing.

Wonderful views from the top of here today. The pillar is a homespun one or local stone blocks one or two of which are missing, as is the plug. There is quite a lot of erosion around the base of the pillar, probably caused by climbers! Great spot!

Magnificent panorama from trig as mist and clouds rose slowly away from neighbouring peaks. From here you can see them all! Descent via ridge, which would make an enjoyable route up.
