Parked to the west near the intersection of Minley Road and Blackbushes Road and then walked through Minley Wood. Interesting water tower and unfortunately it looks like some unauthorised access and vandalism has occurred recently. Cupola dome has spike on top but unsure if this is the remains of the vane and/or a lightning conductor hence logged as possibly missing. Rivet has the same coordinates as the vane so it must be in the cupola directly underneath the vane and therefore inaccessible. Update 15/05/2023 - just found out that on 22/10/2018 a large fire occurred at the water tower. This fire would have destroyed both the rivet and any remains of the vane. A Grade II listed structure, built 1906. OS records 2 elements: Vane - no sign, looks like this has gone; and Rivet - don't know where it is, possibly on the steps or apron at the front, but didn't see it there. Access through Minley Wood. ***4 Sep 2022 update. OS Sketch puts the Rivet at centre of the floor of the upper, glazed, cupola. The Vane was directly above on cupola pinnacle, hence same GR for both components.
