JonT route at dusk, 2.5" bolt recessed in 1.5m concrete block just off grassy margin of runway. Straightforward.

St Mary’s Airport is closed on Sundays (with the exception of a departure only slot between 15:00 and 16:00), so I took the opportunity to look for the trig point. I wasn’t the only visitor – there were two others, who I took to be twitchers – they certainly weren’t look for the trig point. Access was easy – a walk along the coast path (crossing the end of runway 33) as far as Tom Butt’s Bed (so named on the Isles of Scilly 1:15,000 map published by Friendly Guides), from where there is a clear track up to the airport boundary and a simple lifting barrier. From there I walked along the mown grass strip on the south side of runway 27, looking to my left until I found the trig point in the gorse. [I’d advise future visitors to check airport opening times on the Council of the Isles of Scilly website: http://www.scilly.gov.uk/.]

Bagged 11mins after the airfield closed for the night. Approached from coastal path, through gorse for large part of the way. 2" dia bolt located in small recess in large concrete block approx 30m S of runway 27; GPS took me most of the way, easy spot after that. In full view of the tower some 380m away so low profile needed. Airfield is used after hours for emergencies. Our final trig bagged on Scilly, 16 done out of the 21.
