Metal rod marker in concrete block. Easy find with sketch albeit 30cm rooty dig. 16.95m NW of former sapling now a mature ash tree. Easier landmark is smaller tree with short wooden post, block is 0.8m to its L, 1.5m from road edge, at front edge of hedge which has recently been trimmed, helps a lot. Thanks to Jonglew for sourcing the sketch

Searched N verge, probed and pruned for a while. Fairly hard ground. Maybe better in winter. 2023 update - OS sketch added, may help?

Hard and narrow grass verge, doesn't make easy finding. Prodded the ground for a few minutes only before deciding not to pursue this one with any rigour. ***Revisited 16 Jun 2023 with the OS Sketch. Measured the 83.5m and the 16.95m... they didn't coincide, leaving a 1.5 - 2m stretch of hedgerow to search. Concentrated on the 83.5m point, as unknown if the maturing tree was the sapling the OS measured from. The 1.55m from roadside puts the block within the thorn hedgerow. Cut away some of the hedge but was unable to make any meaningful ground probing, therefore no digging. ***Revisited 18 Feb 2024 with No 1 son and No 1 grandson. Thorn hedgerow nicely cut back now so block fully accessible. Paced out 17m from the (former) sapling and immediately saw peregrinus' excavation. Confirm a rod in conc block. Backfilled the hole after photography.

Nothing found worth digging for but there is evidence of new-ish planting in the now very wide hedge so this may have been lost to those works.
