Pleasant walk up the lane past Freemantle Park Farm, autumn colours in the trees made this especially delightful. More delightful anyway than the sad state of the pillar, easily found. Removed the fallen tree from off it, not that a lot more damage could be inflicted on this pillar anyway.

Unaware of the presence of this pillar until investigating this website. Caught a bus to Kingsclere then accessed the pillar via a footpath up a very steep hill. Although the pillar can be regarded as moved (previously in the field alongside and shown as such on the larger scale OS map) it would perhaps be more accurate to say that it is toppled. Anyway extra point for interest.

Walked from entrance to farm private road, marked as a public footpath. Downhill at first then climb heading straight for the radio mast. Good landmark, visible from miles around. Past entrance to mast compound and a caravan site, only one there at the time. Just past reservoir on left on west edge of woods on the field boundary is the very sad looking and damaged pillar. Not sure if this is its original location but appears to have been subject to a determined effort to remove or move it. Noted other posts recorded as moved. The FB is in place although looks like there might have been an attempt to remove it. Again, shows the robust and quality construction of the monuments. Good views to west. Good views to east and north from various points on the track up to the pillar.

White Hill car park was extremely busy today. Lots of walkers out and about, but for some reason this unloved pillar didn't seem to be the centre of anyone else's attention, unlike the Watership Down one. Poor thing is still looking very diagonal, hidden away in its hedgerow. It's still easy to spot and reach from the path, though (at this time of year, at least). As per previous logs, there's no spider, but the FB is still present, despite someone's best attempts to remove it. Lack of Easter Bunnies at Watership Down was made up for by a field full of Easter lambs here!

We approached this one from the SE, from Meadham Lane, then along the private road that leads to Freemantle Park Farm in the NW direction. Drove up to the base of the comms mast and the Caravan Club site. Parked at the field gate to the caravan site (empty at this time of the year) and then it was a quick 2 minute walk along the footpath W until we saw the trig. The muddy footpath was frozen solid, it was a very cold new year's eve day. The trig was completely buried in dense thorn, it was a real job cutting a path through using our garden shears. Condition as described by others. I dropped a 2p coin down the centre tube for the next visitor to find. Happy new year! * * * Revisited 20 April 2018: this trig has been moved again since my first visit.
