Passed through Tynehead and onto B6367. Continued on this road and halfway along the road between Tynehead and Crichton there was a gate on the left hand side which we climbed over and it lead up to the trigpoint. This was our fourth trigpoint visited and was very easy to get to. Field had very early signs of crops growing so we were careful to walk along the main grass verge to the right of field to avoid ruining them. We had followed the tractor tracks up the field and then up to the hill to the trig in less than two minutes. Nice find on a cold wet day!

Crichton is a hamlet in Midlothian, two miles southwest of Pathhead or 11 miles southeast of Edinburgh. The trig pillar is one mile south of Crichton a few metres from the edge of an arable field. Access is easy. A track runs from the B6367 along the northern edge of the field. The trig is then carefully approached via tramlines with consideration not to damage vegetation. Pillar completed, September 1943. Tertiary station in Block NT48, Edinburgh. The pillar is in very good condition and has the company of many small boulders. The spider retains its original OS plug with shallow engraved lettering. The flush bracket is on the southeast face of the pillar. The sighting tube end on the fb side is plugged. The others were all buried by boulders, which were not disturbed. Views to the Pentland and Lomond Hills. Originally visited, 30/06/1985. Revisited and photographed 14th May 2003. I wouldn't normally give such a high rating to a location in an arable field, but this really is a lovely setting.

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed in September 1943 costing £4.17s.0d. Later in 1943 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT48/T52 in the Edinburgh secondary block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1960. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in August 1981.
