Should've read the comments as we walked by it, completely missing the entrance to where it is. As others have said, blocked by a pile of clay/mud and crossed barbed wire.

Easy parking nearby. Short 2 minute walk down a lane, look for the entrance that is blocked by a pile of clay and crossed barbed wire. Big gap to nip through, easily spotted to the left by the river. https://what3words.com/bluntly.cover.pave

Under overhanging small tree on side of River Dearne. Watch out for the sticky clay mound in gateway, it will get everywhere on you.

Easy one to find and get to, No sign of any earth works just a barbed wire fence easy to duck under.. Lots of bird lovers. around Bright and sunny day to carry out our first visit of the day. Parked in the pub car park with landlords blessing PLug missing

An unexpected visit for me pointed out on a group walk. Just off the side of the road on the banks of the River Dearne but there's a huge mound of earth and a three string barbed wire fence separating the area from the road. A friend with local knowledge informed he both had been put there to prevent fly tipping. Centre of spider is missing.

Stumbled across this trig on a walk around Wombwell Ings which is part of the Old Moor RSPB reserve. Next to the river Dearne at a height of just 24 metres. Just wondering if this ever gets submerged in times of flooding.

Parked at Broomhill Flash and headed West along Everill Gate Ln to join the Trans Pennine Trail. Followed TPT SE along the southern edge of Old Moor, eventually crossing the River Dearne. Then picked up the Barnsley Boundary Walk via Ingsfield Ln. The BBW is a wide, rutted track with limited views and lots of fly tipping. Approaching Broomhill Ln the pillar can be seen on the South bank of the River Dearne, just East of Marle's bridge. Uninspiring location with a large amount of rubble and power lines for company. Cap missing and very slight damage to top left corner of the face that has the FB attached. There is also metal tag attached to one of the wire loops but otherwise this pillar is in reasonable condition.

Found while geocaching in the area. Quite surprised to find one here but a fair distance can be seen from here when facing the same way as FB. That said, views not great. A lick of paint would brighten this one up.

3rd of day. Easily accessed by cycling along old main road through provided squeeze by gate preventing vehicle access. On bank of river by low trees. Difficult to understand why a pillar should be at such a low point. Local fisherman given up due to gun pellets whistling close by him through trees! Not caught anything in dark brown fast flowing water.

Out with my 3 girls again. Escaped from the Xmas stress of Cortonwood, parked at the pub (also parking opposite on bend). Walked for 10 minutes down lane with girls tackling the question every father dreads - what is a trig point Dad? Gave up on finding it until almost back at the car when Olivia starts pointing at something - the trig ha ha! Just shows you can learn a lot from kids lol. Location is S of the Dearne v close to riverbank on your right walking N near to gate. Plug is indeed missing. Pictures and smiles all round. Bagged thanks to the girls lol.

My first trig in South Yorkshire. It is possible to park near the sharp bend just to the south of this trig and walk the final few yards. No views really. The RSPB centre at nearby Old Moor is worth a look at.

You don't often find a pillar next to a river. Shock, horror - you might have to get out of a motorized chariot and use the things on the bottom of you a%*e to get to it, all of 200 yards. View, well, nothing of note really. No cars, on foot!

Not difficult to get to, but you do have to walk the last few hundred yards, as it's on the bank of the River Dearne, near a nature reserve and there are locked gates stopping vehicles entering.
