Couldn’t find the block. It’s probably still there but in the seven years since the last log the hedge has grown massively probably now covering the block. In addition the road sign has been changed and may not be in the same location making measuring offsets difficult.

Berntsen 6.3m SE of the SB, 4.2m from telecom manhole cover. found at dusk. NB is this really a passive? Seems to be a chance find from 2006, perhaps put in by a non OS surveyor? See also CJO log re non standard bolt. PS my Berntsen is 6.3m SE of the SB, i.e. a different one from dal's - there are (at least) 2 Berntsens.

Due to the hard work of Dusty and PKB, while popping into Wootton Bassett today (To go to Sainsburys and get my geocache for the calendar), managed to on the return journey to stop in the nearby pull in gateway to park up. (40 minutes before they snack trailer and cars were still here and gate open!) Walked back from gateway to the two trigs here and second one was this one. After seeing the Berntsen continued on and found the cleared area and already the wildlife is growing back but bolt clearly visible between earth.

Block (and Berntsen) closer to hedge than I thought, probably due to hedge thickening up over time. Block needed digging out again. ***NB. The Berntsen has been accepted as not OS and has been deleted from T:UK; it had been TP7883 - Ballards Ash 2

On a previous visit I had found the Bolt, so I thought I'd come and try for the Berntsen again. I prodded all over the place to no avail, and I was walking away when success, I stumbled across it. I measured it up, it is 6.3m NW from the Bolt, and 5.1m from the road sign. It is on the surface, so there is no need to prod. Top still unscrewed and liftable - hence Slightly damaged. I have tried to estimate the grid ref, relative to the other Passive station, using the distance and the photo, based on the direction the road takes. Most of the visits to Ballards Ash have found one or the other; I think there is only one log of both, but no details of the relative position.

Surface block located on the grass verge next to a road junction. Found at my second attempt of the day. I had been looking around the disturbed earth of someone else’s trench without any success. I was about to give up and leave when it was uncovered surprisingly easily by a lucky toe poke much closer to the hedge than I expected. Nothing of note in the vicinity; a couple of nearby fields and the adjacent roads are all that are visible from the site.
