4 years since the last log and the corner of the drain had been grown over. Cleared the grass and the cut mark is still there.

Found the offending drain cover easily. Fortunately Sophie not old enough to complain about us visiting such things yet.

Centre punch mark in centre of shallow cross cut into NE corner of frame of road gully. I see no significant damage to the mark: the Damaged status seems to relate to the paint mark, which isn't the point...

Glad they're not all like this! Very difficult to make out the cut mark but comparing with other photos on here, certain I have it. Crate becoming very overgrown but strangely enough the corner with the mark is fairly clear - 2 others are also clear now!

Ummmm, my first cut. How to musically celebrate this driving back down the M27? Perhaps Cat Steven's 'The First Cut Is The Deepest' or 'Strangely Strange But Oddly Normal' by Dr Strangely Strange.

We came to have a look at this due today, as a result of the recent geocaching challenge. Unfortunately the kids found it to be a bit of an anti climax as they prefer to see a nice big pillar. Never mind, you can't please everyone.

Unusual, must be the simplest find ever, almost all I have seen before involve a long slog uphill/mountain to reach.

If your in the area I suppose you have to come and have a look, not sure what to say about it really,it's a drain cover with a small mark in 1 corner, well let's be honest, it.s a drain cover.

This UNIQUE trig was high on my holiday list of “Must Dos”. I don’t know what passing motorists thought, but we were down on our knees carefully inspecting and photographing that cross!

The "Centre" is a cross etched into the frame of the drain, the corner is marked with a blob of white paint, which is almost worn away. My 200th Trig!

I couldn't visit Portsdown Hill without going to the "The White Blob". The blob is still there, but has faded somewhat since the photos taken by others in the summer of 2004. Does anyone from the OS go round and re-paint these things from time to time?

Haven driven past this one many times but today, in the company of Pharisee, Merman & Omally, I thought it would be a good time to stop and check it out as we were 'passing'. It was interesting to a degree but we were totally underwhelmed.

Strange trig point, this. I can only agree with the previous finders comments but having said that, it's one you just HAVE to visit because it is so unique.

Odd, just a cross on the corner of manhole cover frame. Busy corner for road traffic. Perhaps the white paint is just to draw one's attention to the MARK. What happens if the cover is not replced corretly, ie paint in another corner?

We were down in Hampshire for the HCC geocaching event, so we just had to make a detour to find this unique trigpoint! The benchmark is not the splodge of white paint on the removable manhole cover, but rather the centre of the scratched cross on the outside edge. Speaking to an OS surveyer at the cache event, it's possible that the splodge of white paint was put there for aerial surveying purposes (or it could just mark the vicinity of the benchmark!) The middle of the cross seems to have been further dented using a centre-punch. Perhaps this is why it's called a "centre"?
The manhole cover
The one and only...! The benchmark is the centre of the scratched cross in the top-left of the photo.

No wonder I didn't find it last time - what an anticlimax!! It turned out to be a white painted blob on the corner of a manhole cover which I had looked at before! Not the finest TP I have been to.
