3 of 5 On way back to Sheffield after meet up with old school mates. Nearly missed this one. Approached from S, parked near canal and walked over it, over the railway line then over M6 motorway (geography dictating transport routes) up towards comms tower. Walked on FP to where I thought trig should be and found two large concrete blocks, last disappointing remains I thought. On way back spotted toppled trig half covered with bramble next to E side of S comms tower amongst parked farm machinery. Lucky me, so gave it a couple more points. On to Cloudsley Bush.

Glad I did as the pillar definately still exists, on its side in front of the control cabin for the telco mast nearest the M6, FB still visible. Aside from its unfortunate relocation, it's in vgc, even its metal cap still in place, raised letters. Walked in from the S, a history of transport provided en route with the canal, the railway and the M6. Before the latter, this would have been a pretty, peaceful part of rolling Middle England.

A pleasant if somewhat wet and muddy walk followed which took us past the site of the abandoned village of Upper Smite. Only a few bumps in the ground now to mark its passing. We actually approached this one on the wrong side of the hedge but found our way through easily enough. Apart from the crack mentioned in previous logs, the trig point is in good condition and has all its metalwork in place. The views are flat and uninspiring being, at the time of our visit, cultivated mud.
