Parked up in the not very 'Oare'-inspiring village of that name and headed E along bridleway to Mid Wilts Way footpath, up an ever steepening ascent to the pillar, passing an interesting CBM and rivet just below the summit. Tremendous views across Pewsey Vale, might have been tempted to award a score of '9' if the pillar wasn't the on the wrong side of a fairly vicious BWF! Our first Trig Point bagged in the county of Wiltshire, 51 counties for me, 45 for the dog.

Road between Milkhouse Water and Oare was closed but there were no diversion signs. Tried getting through from West Wick but that didnít work either. Came around through Pewsey and pulled over on side of lane to east of village next to gate into field. Across meadow then over a fence with a sign saying no right of way where the barbed wire had been pulled down using a couple of cable ties. Stepped over then headed north east directly uphill. Fairly steep climb. At top pillar was in field immediately west of the fence beside the footpath. At the time there was a group of about eight students admiring the view. I asked if they were in a club, they said they were doing D of E. They asked me what I was doing, I said come to look at the pillar. They asked what it was and I explained it was a triangulation point used to make maps. Great views. Cap missing. About 50 metres downhill from the pillar beside the footpath is a benchmark stone.

A very beautiful walk along the crest of the hill from the Martinsell pillar. Everywhere you look is an amazing view. Would have been a 10/10 if there wasn't a long barbed wire fence in the way. Trig is close enough to the fence that I'm counting it as a bag, though! A must-visit if you're ever in the area. (To get the other side of the fence, there's a gate at the far East end of the sheep field, near the kissing gate and the sign to Martinsell on the main path.) As others have observed, there's a small block with an OS symbol and a bolt near the trig on the path side of the fence.

Trig is on the N side of the barbed wire fence, but there is a convenient opportunity to get through the fence a little further NE past the trig. Remnants of the electric fence present (but it's not electrified). Trig in good condition, centrecap missing, front & right sightholes closed, left & rear sightholes open. I left a 2p coin in the rear sighthole for the next visitor to find. Stunning views from up there, very windy. 10 out of 10! Continued along the ridge to Martinsell trig station.
