5 Edale Rise back garden. Peter gladly showed me there and yet again apologised for not having repainted again and encouraged me to trim the Bush in front of the flush bracket so I could get to it for photo and air dry clay cast. I was lucky he was in as he was about to take his Toyota for a service in Derby.

(2773) Second visit a week apart for this one. No-one home again, but did happen to speak to a neighbour this time. He was happy to accompany me to the pillar once I'd explained why I was calling. I asked if he could mention me to the homeowners to let them know I'd been when he sees them next. Pillar in fine condition with all metalwork intact. FB a little hard to photograph but fully readable. Another nice garden trig - great to tick this off the list. Pillar history: Built on the 18th of August 1948, at a cost of £8 0s 10d. Last maintained by the OS in March of 1974.

There would have been no chance of even viewing from the adjacent field so my expression of gratitude was genuine. Although I am not sure that my suggestion that having a trig pillar in ones garden puts several thousand pounds onto the value of the property!
