I am giving it a ten for location! Nice bottle of bubbles by hot tub. Slightly out of my price range for a wee holiday let. Owner told us it was the high point of the county? But hill bagging disagrees. https://www.uniquehomestays.com/self-catering/uk/essex/saffron-walden/the-makers-house/

I was interested to see this trig point, said by the owners of the kennels at the time to be the highest point in Essex, is still in good shape. We lived there for 2 years, 1989 - 1991 but the place wasn't really very well kept, even if the pillar was ok. We have not been back to visit but both owners at the time, have now passed. After we left, a swimming pool was built, adjacent to the trig point. We had the occasional visiter to see the point, when we lived there.

The place seemed a building site with no-one present, so entered grounds. However, the far intact single storey building had cars outside, so I retreated. No answer on either of the options on the gate intercom. Walked up edge of field on Southern side of property and spotted pillar topped with metal ornamental world globe in garden behind metal security type fencing.

Welcomed into garden by two very friendly ladies. They had one of the only 12 theodolites ever made (they claimed) - bought on Ebay for £300!

Took a while to gain access to the pillar as it's now in the landscaped garden of a private residence with large fences/gates keeping visitors very much out. But after buzzing in at the entrance to the drive the electric gates opened and I was cordially met by the owner and shown the pillar, which is now a feature in the garden. The previous cattery/kennels are no more. The pillar looks structurally sound but could do with a coat of paint and some moss killer (not necessarily in that order). Didn't see a swimming pool, I think the previous poster saw a pond being constructed. Less than a km from the Essex county top and just 8m lower, there are no views from here.

Lots of building work going on in the grounds and the trig now as it's own swimming pool, the owner showed me round no problem, he thought it my be the highest place in Essex, told him it was close but not quite, that honour go's to the other side of High wood (walked up there from the nearby church, not recommended, very wet and only for those fools like me trying to do all the historic county tops), no reason to think the trig will not survive the building work.

Viewed trig through fence from nearby field as it was situated in grounds of Windrush boarding kennels and cattery. Suppose I could have asked someone to take a coser look but was unable to see anyone around and some dogs were barking at us! On camera zoom pillar looks in good condition.

Fairly easy to find being situated in the back garden of the Windrush Boarding Kennels and Cattery (Tel 838355). Owner amenable to visitors and has adopted this TP. Claims to have entry in Guiness Book of Records as Highest Point in Essex. Owner has painted this TP white in order to protect it a little.
