Diverted from a circular walk from Howick Hall to Craster then the Coast Path to Low Stead Links finally along Howick Burn and back through the Arboretum. ~~ 24/05/20 3rd visit, but this time approached from the south along the footpath that starts at the entrance to Howick Hall. Have to say that although a slightly longer route it is a much more impressive route as the crags of Whinstone the TP sits on are much better appreciated as you approach. Well worth the extra few minutes walking to bag this one I'd say.

You’re a bit exposed up here and in full view of the farm. There were some ominous black clouds gathering upwind so I didn’t hang about for too long. The pillar is in good condition with all the metalwork where it should be. It’s obviously been used as a ’rubbing post’ by the sheep and isn’t as white as it once was. You can see to the horizon in all directions from up here but it’s mostly coast and farmland; nice but hardly spectacular. The promised rain hit me just as I got back to the car… that was lucky.

It has been nearly seven years since we last logged this one. The boys are a somewhat older now. Bagged the trig on the same circular walk from Craster to Howick. Good views and nice weather.
