Log #424. Parked in lay-by, then walked east along the road before hopping the gate and up to the pillar. Lots of dew at this time in the morning and my feet got soaked. Some spalling and chunks missing from base, but structurally sound. Cap missing and plugged. [ExP-293/MiP-34/Rev-6/BM-29/IS-43/Other-19]

Fortunately, the person at the farm told me the field was clear of bulls. The others to either side were a bit infested with curious coos. Good condition pillar with some concrete repairs at the top. Chunk taken out the north-west corner. The pillar is sited on a bizarre brick raft. FB faces south. North and West sightholes open, but bunged up. Spider intact. Cap missing with asphalt plug. Surprisingly decent views considering how low a hill it's on..... There's also a cut benchmark on the farm building for afficianados of other OS furniture!

Visited to record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed 15th September 1947 costing £10.13s.4d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS44/T47 in 1950. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in June 1980. SITE VISIT: Pillar in good condition. This pillar seems somewhat elevated. Blocks have been built around the base of the pillar implying that ground erosion was once a problem here. The flush bracket faces SSW. This station is located in an arable field, 4 miles NW of Kilmarnock. Access is from the unclassified road to the south. Visited and photographed 29/04/1997, GRP.
