Pulled over on west side of crossroads about three quarters of a mile south of the A30. Looked over gate into field on north east side of crossroads and spotted pillar in hedge on plinth on east side of field. Walked east along lane then over gate into field and along field edge. Plinth covered in ivy and other vegetation close by. Bit of a scramble onto plinth. Farmer driving tractor up and down in next field, if he saw me he ignored me, waved, not sure he saw. Cleared some vegetation away but needed proper tools. Crack across top, cap missing. Reasonable views, farmland mainly.

The ivy clad pillar stands on a stone clad plinth in a banked hedge on a broad ridge in the Blackdown Hills between Upottery and Stockland. The FB S3947 can be seen through thorns from the sheep field to the west. The top of the hedgingbank was accessed from the field of stubble to the east; the ivy conceals the condition of the pillar but poking my fingers through the top revealed that it lacks a cap or plug. The fields were accessed through gates to the minor road in the south. From the top of the bank the ridges of Hartridge and Reddick’s Hills can be seen to the west; the end of a distant scarp slope can be seen in the southeast.
