8 of 9 today. As others parked at the end of the road near the old quarry at approx. NZ 02208 75629. I think there is an error on the latest digital maps? as the bridleway is shown going north through the quarry water of which signs state keep out! There was a bridle way marker at NZ 01495 75715 to the west on the track which is not shown on an old paper map either so perhaps rerouted over time but not updated? As I approached Mootlaw I asked two young farmers on their Quad bikes if it was ok to visit the trig especially as it was in full view of the farm house and being close too but not actually on a PROW or access land. They were more than happy for me to visit it. No cows in this field but there was to the field SE of the trig. Just over 1/2 an hours walk return. Difficult to turn the car around and headed off to the final trig of the day.

My second visit, different route. Parked at Kirkheaton and followed PROW past the flooded quarry and then SE across pasture full of sheep and cows to the TP. Fantastic views, and despite rather overcast skies, cloud base high enough not to obscure anything other than the very top of the Cheviot.

Bit of an epic, this one. Staying with a friend in Little Bavington, I set off on my bike at 0650 and was dismayed by how much height I lost going through Hallington and further South. That was quicly made up in ascending Ryal Hill which has apparently gained infamy on the cycling Tour of Britain! Anyway, once I'd scraped my lungs off the road, I cycled steadily up to the trig, which offers spectacular views, particularly this morning, of rainclouds sweeping in from the west. Undeterred, in Hawaiin shirt and shorts, I hopped on the bike to find I had a puncture, and had I bought a repair kit or spare tube? Of course not. In the rain, I freewheeled and trudged back to Ryal to meet my host who had interrupted breakfast preparations to rescue me, bless 'im.

Bike wiith flat!
