Very enjoyable walk up to this trig in a lovely surrounding. I started at Elland RLFC in Greetland and followed footpaths across fields before reaching the Moor. Fine views and a handy bench nearby to sit and enjoy the ambience. Had an interesting chat with a local who told me about the nearby Wainhouse Tower, which I subsequently headed towards.

The first Trig of the day then a run across the valley to the Trig at Crow Hill. I've been around this Trig for for years / decades, with it being close to family. The Trig is in great condition and the high level moorland surrounds are lovely.

Wall to wall autumn sun ....except here! Hit the thick fog coming over Summit on the M62, real pea souper in this neck of the South Pennines today. Parked down near Triangle and had a very pleasant autumnal ascent through Rough Hey Wood. Trig in decent nick although in need of a fresh coat of paint as very flaky. FB has been painted over and seems to have an artificial cap.

(2450) Small carpark full on Butterworth End Lane by the time I got there, so roadside parking it was. Steep climb to begin with, but it soon levelled out. Nice walk after that to the pillar, which is visible from some distance away. Centre cap is a composite replacement and all metal work is over painted - the FB number is now readable thanks to someone scraping some of the paint off - but everything else in good nick. Pillar history: Built on the 10th of December 1947, at a cost of £8 6s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in June of 1986

Did on circular route round Norland moor, Trig is easy enough to find sat near a bench on the PROW. Pillar in good condition with great views off in all directions. Replacement centre cap fitted

Parked by the caravan site on Butterworth End Lane and followed the Calderdale Way North towards the Trig , which is situated in an area of moorland popular with walkers , mountain bikers and dogs-The trig is in good condition and is completely covered in white paint the cap appears to be plastic -three sight holes are open and the FB faces 307, 360 views can be enjoyed from the nearby memorial bench

HISTORY: Pillar completed 10th December 1947 costing £8.6s.9d. Computed as fourth order station SE02/T33 during 1949. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision tertiary standards in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in June 1986. SITE VISIT: Approached from north. Free car park off SE side of road at SE055218. Followed mapped RoW network to top. Open moorland on access land. Pillar in good condition. Spider plugged with brown resin cap. Over painted flush bracket faces WNW, compass measurement 302°. Vented through NW, SE and SW sight holes, innards blocked by debris. 360° open outlook with 282° panoramic view, the remainder from ESE to S is overtopped by higher ground.

(Not sure of date.) Parked at opposite the pub and headed upwards. Suspicious amount of dog shit early doors! To make a trip of it we averted our eyes at the top and went clockwise around the moor. Yep. A mass of interconnecting paths, so you could choose your route, depending, no doubt, on the length of your dog's legs. God, there were a lot of them. Must be nice if you are a local, but not really worth a trip. Pub was OK though. (Forgotten its name.)

Metro Dayrover Fitzwilliam to Leeds, then onto Sowerby Bridge. Walked down old railway bed to Ripponden as far as possible. From Ripponden took Calderdale Way onto Norland Moor. Trig easy enough to find, painted totally white including FB and plug. Lots of dog walkers. Good views even on a dull day like today up Calderdale and onto surrounding tops. Biting Feb wind made lunch on the adjacent bench a short one.

Driving out from Greetland towards Stoodley Pike, a diversion to visit this Trig. Loads of lovely heather and great views made this a really nice Trig. First one for Tee since I told her what they were! Thanks for putting me up thjis weekend. 284m. Me, Tee

Good views from the moor plateau across Caldedale. Trigs in good condition, nice and white today. Obviously a well walked area as the paths are well eroded. Tigged on a Marsden to Sowerby Bridge hike. Could be bagged from the nearby Shaw Lane (would take all of 10 minutes and with minimal effort!). Revisited on 15/03/2007 in totally different conditions (howling wind & rain). Revisited (again) with No1 daughter on 23/01/2009 in pretty good conditions - still a little snow about. Whoevers looking after the trig is doing a really good job. No cars, on foot!
