Great views across the Tay estuary. Climbed up from Northfield Farm, where I went to enquire if it was OK to climb padlocked gate. No-one answered door and no-one around so I went up. Circular walk from mast (difficult to access footpath from this side) and Scotscraig Estate.

From the Bridgehead car park, through Newport and across the dual-carriageway before heading up the track. Through the wood on the left before reaching the antenna compound. The pillar is situated in green pasture on the other side of the wood. Best views clearly to the west through north, over the Tay to Dundee.

Took a longer route to this than probably necessary parking up the hill slight just off the main road (N56° 26.406' W2° 55.969'). However good track all the way and just a short section of rough terrain to get round the mast compound. Right you have to go over a barbed wire fence. Left into pheasant compound much easier and over a fallen fence. Lots of no dogs signs, presumable due to the pheasant farms.

This pillar is not at the highest point at Northfield; it lies just below the tree line. Approached this one from a north-easterly direction (deviating from The Fife Coastal Path), to walk round a wheat field, then up the hill. Could see the floodlights of Dens Park glinting in the sunlight. Enjoyed the fine viewpoint, before finding the welcoming Bank Bar in Union Street to sup a lunchtime pint of Inky Pinky!

I parked at the Tay Bridge Kiosk car park and walked down to the B946 and up the track, disturbing some cattle as I climbed over the gate and into the field. Pillar has plug/cap missing; FB faces NW; SW & SE sightholes open; others plugged. Superb view of the Tay Bridges and Dundee and distant hills to the west and north on a beautiful clear day. Dundee Law war memorial (TP11797) is clearly visible to the NW, as is its nearby pillar (TP2912).

Another Tay viewpoint. This time lined up with the road bridge. I always though the road bridge was a bland structure, but the straight uncluttered line to the heart of the city is very striking from here. Dundee certainly bagged a spectacular location. Plug missing. Went in from the south off a farm track, I expect the field will be ploughed soon. Lambs about as well. (And of course partridges.)

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 30th June 1948 costing £6.19s.6d. Later in 1948 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NO42/T28 in the Dundee secondary block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1967. This trig point was last maintained by the OS on October 1981. Pillar not at the summit. Overlooking the Tay Road Bridge from the south.
