Opposite Oldwick farm is a track which leads to a copse. I pulled into the track and parked, and walked along the track until I reached a gate at the edge of the copse. I walked into the trees and immediately turned edge, following the edge of the trees, on the tree-side of a barbed wire fence until I found the trig. It's somewhat overgrown, and not a spectacular location, but I was pleased to find it!

Asked for permission to visit at Oldwick Farm. Friendly reception and permission willingly granted. Short walk along farm track to wood. Trig on field side of fence apparently cleared of surrounding vegetation.

From road walk down farm track. Bit wet and muddy being December. Pillar is on field boundary about 30 yards on right at end of track. Unspectacular location. Rewarding find.

Just as I started to walk along the track from Oldwick Farm the farmer arrived, I asked if it was o.k. to go to the trig point and he said it's fine no problem.

Was met by farmer in vehicle. At first he was very grumpy saying, "This isnt a ROW!" I said I was looking for the Trig on his land. And could I please search for it. Once he knew what I was up to he gladly gave consent. His whole demeanor changed. Its by the fence next to the wood that hides it from a quick look. No views.

The pillar was completely hidden from view from the field edge, so nipped over the nearby gate and into Oldwick Copse, through the trees to easily find it nestling against the fence. Clambered over the barbed wire fences and cleared an opening into the field. This clearing will presumably be quickly overgrown again at this time of the year, so fellow trigpointers you've probably got about a week for an easy trouble-free visit! Cleared all the ivy from the pillar, but we know that Mother Nature is waiting to reclaim it.

Parked roadside opposite Oldwick Farm. Lots of metal detectors and their human handlers in the field, so didn't ask permission. Pillar is hard against a fence on edge of Oldwick Copse - covered with moss and ivy. Cleared some, but not all. Cap missing, asphalt plug; sight holes undetermined as beneath ground level. Views N to South Downs.

I had a look at this a while ago but considered it a little exposed on a busy day - tried again today, when i arrived there today the farmer and land owner was chatting at the end of the path to the pillar, permission was readily given with and explaination of where to look - not sure of this is the same land owner mentioned by Clanfield Rambler - Pillar is in good condition and located against fence and covered in ivy - farmland views.

The trig is against the fence surrounded by nettles - a bit neglected. Nice cup of coffee back at the stables. Tarmac plug.

I'm writing this in Aug 2018 having just dug out some old maps and found notes on a few trigs I did 20+ years ago before I even realised this site existed! My map notes say, "Ask at the farm. Trig on woodline up unmarked farm track. Views to Goodwood Hill."
