As you look at the tree to the right there is a metal bar blocking the small entrance to the field. Over this and the remains are to the right under the bushes. As Stanners said there is the remains of the base at the start of the bridle way to the North.

Found pillar rubble in the ditch on the opposite site of the road to the GR. This is definitely the pillar as sculpted concrete with white paint is evident on many of the piece, one has the remains of the top loops, and another has half a sight hole. So is this remains? I guess with some very string glue it could be reassembled - a pillar jigsaw anyone?

I was drawn to the trig by a nearby geocache which mentioned the presence of broken pieces of pillar in the ditch , and found that I had parked right next to the concrete pieces in the ditch. The surface, smoother outer layer of concrete is visible on several bits as is white paint and the neatly bevelled edge of the pillar . I shifted a few bits but no sign of the FB plate. It was fascinating to see the 'bones' of the pillar - a bit like discovering a fossil ! Photos to follow

Great find MCL. Rummaged around and found a couple of pieces with fair face finish and telltale bevel edges. Also a large piece with half of centre hole and a top loop, also two rusty sighting tubes. My closest Destroyed pillar and it took me two years to notice it had been found! In 2002 I was very new to the game and evidently haven't made a proper search other than attempting to track down the farmer. Maybe he has the FB on his mantlepiece although I imagine the OS have removed it plus the spider.

I believe I have found what's left of the old trig! Now, if YOU were an old, out-of-work, broken-down pillar, where would YOU hide? Across the road from its original location is a ditch and one end of it is has chunks of concrete , about enough to make one pillar. Further, one of the lumps clearly shows the remains of one of the sightline holes. See photos. I'm satisfied this can hardly be anything but the old trig so I'm logging it as newly found remains. Most of the chunks are too large and well-ensconsed to be moved, but anyone with enough time and muscle could heave them out and maybe locate the flush bracket. Chain-gang anyone?
