Bagged along with Rombald's Moor pillar on a 6-mile tour of Ilkley Moor. Lots of standing water after the recent rain, so plenty of bog-hopping to do to get to these. Overgate Croft Farm sits on an easy and obvious footpath; we just followed the wall from Rombald's Moor plantation (which differs from the current OS mapping; it's been partially felled and partially replanted). Pillar well cared for with fresh white paint and in excellent condition despite missing its cap - I wouldn't have realised it has been repaired if not for previous logged comments. Then onwards to Rombald's...

Latest of many re-visits, this time I came across from Long Ridge End along a fairly muddy path (despite the recent dry weather) and returned along Crawshaw Moss, the Buck Stones to Whetstone Gate (and ultimately Ilkley). The main thing of note is the real deterioration of the path from Crawshaw Moss to Whetstone Gate. The route across NW Crawshaw Moss was flagged a few years ago but the rest of the route to/from the Buck Stones has been trashed by mountain bikers - it's a morass of mush and god help it when the wet season comes!! A remarkable achievement by the parasites of the 'outdoor community'! The route following the wall from the Buck Stones to Whetstones Gate is reasonably traversable but requires detouring from the wall (north side) in many places due to severe erosion. Other than the usual wonderful view from the trig point it was all a bit depressing really. A pox on all mountain bikers on footpaths!

Walked along from Rombalds Moor and back to Cow & Calf via Swastika Stone, Spicey Gill & Rocky Valley. Hot, sunny Sunday afternoon at end of Half Term week so half of West Yorkshire was on the Moor. This does seem a strange name for the pillar, Overgate Croft Farm isn't even the nearest farm. The area topped by the pillar is usually known as Addingham Moorside or Addingham High Moor and, on my 1961 One Inch OS map, the name Long Ridge End is prominent next to the trig.

Easy trek up from Wells Road car park in Ilkley, made twice as arduous by the gale-force winds blowing in from the west on what was an otherwise fine day, with great views of Wharfedale. Had to shelter from the wind behind a 'leaky' dry-stone wall and surprised that I was able to hold the camera still enough for sharp photographs. Part of a circular walk taking in Rivock Edge and Rombalds Moor trigs.

Easily accessible and visible. I also approached this one from Whetstone Gate along path (feint at times) keeping to northern side of wall. Just one wall crossing needed on nearing pillar. Extremely wet for time of year with evidence of oil in some of the boggy bits. Pillar in good condition apart from the missing plug leaving the centre open to the elements. Glorious views across the purple heathered moorland. [Passing here today (31.10.12) so took the opportunity to take some pictures. Just a short detour up a steep and heathery slope from the path running from Addingham High Moor to Ilkley brings you to this trig point. Excellent all-round views on a day such as this. Pendle in the west, Buckden Pike in the north, Beamsley Beacon to the east and The Cow & Calf rocks above Ilkley to the south-east. But what an absolutely stupid name for this trig point! Who on earth gave it this name? Over Gate Croft Farm is over a mile away to the north, half way down the hill into Addingham. Why not be totally stupid and name it 'Addingham Village Hall' trig point?! 'Addingham High Moor' is a far more appropriate and sensible name for it.

One of my favourite local trigs (lots of visits both before and after this log). Its Addingham High Moor really - John, Over Gate Croft (and presumably the farm) is about a mile directly north of the trig. On a good day theres a grand view up the lower Wharfedale valley towards Bolton Abbey and over much of the surrounding area. To the NW there is a stile at the field corner and faint paths following either wall at left or right takes you to the main ROW. No cars, on foot.
