I spent over half an hour here probing the ground. Using the photograph to provide a line on which to prod, and the amount of window showing to give a distance along the line. I will have been very close, but unfortunately didn't strike the right spot. Disappointing. ***Revisited 23 Dec 2018 with a group. Took a while but it was eventually located. peregrinus has recorded the measurements we took. NB the wooden frame for the original feature which the OS measured from is extant just beneath the surface, with one section visible.

This one wasn't easy. It's located somewhere in the middle of a large expanse of grass with no distinguishing features. The advice to line up the far end of the house roof with the left hand pillar of the bridge is good and gives an accurate bearing on which the Berntsen must lie. The difficulty is in determining how far along this line it is. I used the amount of window showing on previous photographs as a guide but of course that depends on the height above the ground that the photo was taken. Fifeteen minutes of stabbing and I struck gold. Only an inch below the surface and in good condition.

Had my geocaching event this evening to find the berntsen hidden under the grass. Took 6 of us 30 minutes to find it in the soggy muddy grass armed with a knife, a garden fork, pokey pointy things, a screwdriver and eventually a metal detector. It was found without the detector. Got some funny looks from the local dog walkers. Followed previous advice and lined up the required items but didn't really help. GPS said 4 m out which isn't too bad.

There it is
Aye, that's it

In line with front house roof apex and left bridge pier. Also nearby is destroyed buried block "Scorgie NH54 T047. As it has the same station number as this Berntsen, presumably this station replaced it.
