Nice walk around Bickerton and the Sand Stone trail. Good weather though a bit windy at times. As we'd parked at the Bickerton Poacher we stopped there for lunch post bagging, a lovely morning out.

Part of the sandstone trail. Lovely walk. Parked near small cluster of houses Bickerton Hill, crossed road and followed path. No view from trig in summer but views on walk up.

Parked just off the main road SJ51393 53714; the telephone box marked on the OS map doesn’t seem to be there anymore. Walked up the lane and across aforementioned main road to join Sandstone Trail. Most enjoyable, and the cliffs weren’t too scary. Common sense should prevail. Trig is still good and we had time for biscuits on the nearby bench, before moving on to complete our hat-trick of Royal Engineers crested trigs.

Took New Lane out of Harthill. Parked in wide field entrance just before gate acroos the road and ascended the well-maintained steep PROW to the south. After joining the Sandstone Trail at top of the climb, the trig is reached by an interesting fairly flat path which follows the line of the escarpment to the south. The views, which should be really good, are obscured by the trees even when bare in winter. Nonetheless, a very enjoyable bag. By Silvia and Pete for HCU3A

Highest point on the Sandstone Trail at 746 ft. The path up to the trig was overgrown and eroded in many places. At one point a tree blocked the path, having been uprooted by the erosion and it was necessary to cross over the remaining path via a piece of wood. The trek to the top involves negotiating steep cliff edges and is not for the fainthearted. It was a sunny, calm day when I bagged the trig. I wouldn't recommend doing it in bad weather. Having said that it was well worth the scarey moments reaching the trig but you do need a bit of a head for heights.

Bagged on a circular walk on a windy but sunny day including the Sandstone Trail from Bulkeley Hill. Hardest part was negotiating some fallen trees across the trail - from Arwen. Great views particularly to the west.

Parked in a lay-by on New Lane. Took the public right of way / footpath up to the pillar. Part of the trip involves walking very close to a cliff edge along the Sandstone Trail, where some care and attention is required. This is a crested trig pillar, as it was built by the Royal Engineers in the mid 1940's, and they would place their regimental crest on to the pillar. Wynnstay Hall near Ruabon, Wrexham, was used as a training establishment for the Royal Engineers Survey Cadre, and as part of their training during the 1943-47 period, the trainees were tasked with building some of the secondary and third order pillars. The Raw Head pillar is one of only eight that have the crest

Day 7 of 13: Anglesey to Holmfirth walk. From camp at Trevalyn and back in England. Approach via Sandstone Trail from South. Nice trig and nice walk with some steep drops on this part of the trail adding excitement. Onto an interesting camp at the Bickerton Poacher, not a story for this database though...

Great location with stunning narrow views due to trees once all round must have been awesome. Pillar good condition with engineer crest. All to myself in winter wonderland. Reference the crest my understanding is that Royal Engineers were still involved in building some pillars and left there mark.

Taken in as part of a trail race from Duckington to Delamere forest. The trig is in great condition with a what looks to be fresh coat of white paint. Great views over the surrounding countryside as well.

Fancied a real mile eating day out. This is one of my last to do in Cheshire, and I thought to retry Jodrell Bank as well. Arrived by Stone, Woore and elevens's in Audlem having covered 95km. Took steep cul-de-sac road then well signed footpath through woods. Well worth the visit for the panorama - Welsh hills, Wrekin, Clee hills, Pennines.

Nabbed this one while getting the nearby cache. Excellent views from the Trigpoint in all directions - the Trig itself has an unusual detail on which I've just read on someone's log is the Royal Engineer's Crest.

I had a lovely gentle walk up this Marilyn from the south over the sandstone. There are sharp drops off ther path so take care if tackling this at night. There is also a cave at the top. Nice trig with an embossed emblem on it.
