Approached using the A35 Lyndhurst Road and accessed via the little un-named driveway just West of Verno Lane. About halfway up this lane you'll see an old shed on the right through a mass of what I now know are rhododendron bushes. After trying a couple of approaches I think the best way is to go past the shed before fighting your way back through the foliage. The pillar is on the side of the shed furthest from the road. While scanning for the Trig also be aware there's a shin-high barbed wire fence that you probably won't notice until you walk into it (like I did). It does seem an oddly placed pillar as over time it's had a shed built alongside and has now been consumed by undergrowth, leaving no views whatsoever. On the bright side, it's good to see that recent Trig-bagging visits have rid the pillar of the insidious, creeping ivy that appeared in some pictures from earlier years.

Parked at west end of residential estate (Hazel Close). Path through to lane to reach A35 main road. Used OS Explorer OL 22. Turned left (south west), alongside main road, odd to be going downhill. At next entrance on left, turn left. About twenty metres from the road on the right of the track, look for the pillar in garden beyond the barbed wire fence in amongst the rhododendrons at the foot of wooden steps up into a tree house. Too close to pass by without attempt to photograph FB even though it was a bit rude. Rhododendrons provide good cover and tree house looks unused. Neighbour on other side of the lane was cutting their hedges, but not observed. No views at all. May seem very odd location but must have had good views when erected. Bit different to location of later one at Hengistbury Head. Busy there. PS love the 1984 picture before swallowed up by vegetation.

Having tramped through the overgrown garden of "The Thatch", presently unoccupied, found the right location at the shed, but not found the Trig. I next approached from the adjacent track until parallel with shed and fought my way through the undergrowth to locate the Trig at one end of the shed, beyond a large Rhododendron. Very difficult to photograph.

Well this was an elusive little hider. Not wanting to disturb the house owners I hopped over the fence and around the wooden garage and couldn't find it at all. Given past descriptions I should've had my antennae more finely tuned. having looked twice without success I went and knocked on Thatch cottage. the friendly woman was wholly bemused by what I was describing, took me through house into garden where husband Keith was chopping wood. He equally knew nothing about it. They'd been there about four years. As he and I walked round the south end of the wooden garage where I'd looked just seven to eight minutes before, there next to the wooden ladder leading up to the loft of the garage was a wholly ivy covered four foot high lump that I'd walked right past. Keith was fascinated and went off to get some secateurs and we revealed it again and I told him how the OS used them. Subtext, if you're a number geek like me and imagine the FB numbers to be birthay dates, that make up part of a BTW (Birthday Trig Walk of Life) This one is actually the 16th birthday trig of Brooklyn Beckham..!!

On my return, I had a another go, just managing to spot a likely candidate behind the garage. I hopped over the gate to confirm. The condition is probably good but the ivy prevented confirmation.
