Drove to a gate marked Rothesay Golf Course, room to leave the car in the lay-by and headed up the track. At the highest point went left to find the trig at the 13th tee.

Train ride up from South Wales then an easy walk up to the golf course from Rothesay. Trig hiding in gorse bushes. Good views to the south looking across Loch Ascog to the Isle of Arran.

Drove up the Serpentine and parked in first available spot at the golf course up a very icy track and across the fairway to the trig pillar. Gorse bushes encroaching the pillar so not much of a view

Parking ok at bend in road (NS 0976 6439). RoW leads south of the trig, short divert over a very soggy green which was keeping all the golfers away. Pillar sits adjacent to a large patch of gorse, which is not yet encroaching upon it. Original top cap is retained, raised lettering; LHS sight hole open.

Log #451. Over on Bute with friends while they played at the annual music festival, so dragged a few very hungover folk up to the trig to clear the cobwebs. Dreich day, so not many views and soggy grass. Pillar is in decent condition, not much else to report. [ExP-310/MiP-38/Rev-6/BM-29/IS-49/Other-19]

Parked at the corner of the minor road to the SW for a short walk to Rothesay Golf Course trig and then small grassy mound in wood for summit of Common Hill.

Threatening skies all around but the rain stayed off long enough for the visit. Short stroll up the track to the west and across a fairway. Not many souls on the course probably due to the weather.

Small vertical crack (pictured) running down from the top of the western side. Excellent views to Arran and to a lesser extent Cowal though the trees obscure the eastern panorama. Overall a very pleasant little hill.

Lovely day, and lovely views. Better a few metres away from the trig towards the edge of the golf course though. Very accessible trig as long as you avoid being hit by a stray golf ball.

A wee walk up from the town. Brilliant views in all directions of the Kyles, Arran, the Cumbraes etc

Walked up from Rothesay via the Serpentine road, then back via the viewpoint to the East, Ardencraig riding school and the woodland path through Bogany Wood.

Hot day, but hazy, so views not spectacular. At first it was hidden by gorse, but then it came into view. No golfers about.

Steep climb up The Serpentine pushing a pram which was then left in the Golf Course hut by 13th Green. Proceeded carrying 6th month old son to trigpoint and indeterminate Hump in woods.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 1st September 1955 costing £29.2s.2d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS04/T50 in 1956. Levelled for height also in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in May 1968. SITE VISIT: Three trig 13 mile circuit starting and finishing at Rothesay ferry terminal. Common Hill. Approached from west. From Rothesay town centre via Serpentine Road to NS097644 then a further 200m east along golf course track and north up side of fairway to trig which is not at the true summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Flush bracket faces south, ~175°. Vented through west sight hole. Limited views available to north and south. Continued via Rothesay and B878 for Barone Hill.

Good condition pillar situated by the 13th tee on the Rothesay Golf Course. Easily accessed from the north west from a layby. FB faces south-ish with west-ish sighthole open only. Cap present with raised lettering. Nice views for such little effort!

The score simply reflects the weather conditions - awful drizzly, soaking, strength sapping, view killing mist. Easy enough find next to the 13th tee. I came from the north east up initially along Eastlands Road then turning east along the obvious track where the road turns sharply west. Went back to Rothesay via the aptly named Serpentine Road (very steep, glad I didnt choose to walk up it!). NCOF!
