Not the best weather to be searching for this, luckily I noticed a hole and scrapped back some earth to reveal the Berntsen. Bagged whilst the family had a look round Linlithgow Palace.

Found it this time! The vegetation had died back making the tape-in from the fence post (as per the sketch) much more accurate. Had to clear about 4" of snow off the surface before having a good prod with the tent peg. Previous measurement of 170cm in from the line is bang on. Buried to a depth of around 3". Re-covered it. Also managed to get the car stuck in snow, so the trowel was pressed into service again!

I thought I found the lil feller, but only unearthed a Ford hubcap after a decent times poke n prod... curiously; someone has strip-mined the area a bit closer to the layby.

Struggled with this one for about half an hour in long grass and vegetation. Even with tapes, trowels (forgot the tent peg!), no joy. Will return in winter.
