5th visit to take Grid Ref reading. Retraced the route I last took on 30/10/17 Hartside - Alnhammoor - Salters Road then fenceline to top and descended down the hill's NE shoulder. Beautiful weather, stunning views. ~~ 28/11/20 4th visit, different route - parked just SE of Ewartly Shank and followed Salters Road through the farm and up Little Dod then ATV tracks that follow fence line to summit. Cloudless skies, not a breath of wind, frost and ice underfoot - the sort of conditions the word 'Crisp' was invented for. Glorious views. Descended ENE towards Linhope, and onto Hedgehope Hill...

Parked on side of road just before the gate to Ewartly Shank, then followed Salter’s Road over Little Dod, and the fence line off to the right all the way to the trig. A little boggy in places but not too bad. Set off in thick fog, which cleared to leave bright sunshine high up, and atmospheric low mist swirling through the valleys. Great views of the Border Ridge, Cheviot, Hedgehope, and all the way to the coast. Fog rolling back in as we left. Spectacular, and relatively easy going compared to some trigs in this area. Beware of the rather rough road to Ewartly Shank though

K The unexpected summit of shelter and large cairn sandwiching the trig is a lovely spot to take in the surrounding hills, with the fence making navigation easy in all weathers. Approached via "improved" Salters Road from Ewartly Shank and indistinct quad track from road summit (parked by bridge just S of farm, couple of spaces off road, though the road from Alnham is quite the worst I've driven on for some time explaining why no guide books start from here).

Follow the track along the Breamish before taking track down to FB ovrer the Breamish and returning to Hartside via Linhope. 11/09/17 Second Visit - a fabulous day, however some balls up with SD card meant we lost all the photos from the summit grrrr 05/09/15 First Visit - Due to unfortunate circumstances our Sunday afternoon plans got 'punctured', but we salvaged enough of one of the last truly glorious days of the summer to fashion a shorter walk than planned but allowed us to tick a hill we'd traversed round several times without ever ascending to the summit. Fabulous views, but on a day like this one, anywhere would look good. Except Sunderland, obviously.

Second of the day, the previous being Wether Cairn. Dropped down from Black Butt to cross Sting Burn and to get out of the howling wind, then took an almost direct line to Shill Moor crossing Salter's Road just NW of the fence line and then went diagonally up. Stunning views of the Breamish Valley, Hedgehope and Cheviot, although its summit remained in dark cloud all day...sulking! Dropped down the fence line to Salter's Road and then back to Ewarty Shank and the car. Great day not a speck of precipitation and fantastic views across Northumberland. The summit looks like a large Neolithic/Bronze Age barrow, similar to those on other Northumberland Hills, but with the stones above the lowest layers rearranged to give a cairn, a shelter, and trig foundations... however I can't find anything on the internet to confirm this.
