Heading north west on B road from Worgret, pulled in at entrance to quarry on left of road. Didn’t realise had passed the pillar already. Walked back along the quarry track parallel with the road. Signs warning of quick sand and steep drop. Wondered if pillar had fallen into a quarry. Decided to get help from here. Roadside. Down embankment from quarry track and started walking back again, on north side of road towards quarry entrance. Beginning to think it might be further towards the south east as ground there slightly higher, then spotted it on the roadside verge below the level of the embankment, perched on the edge of the ditch and leaning precariously towards the road. Well camouflaged as it blended in with the vegetation. Unlikely to topple over if it remains connected to its base. Quite a fast road but not many cars about on new year’s day. Grubby spot. Views along road.

Road-side trig, on the S side of the road. If approaching from the NW (i.e. you're travelling SE), immediately after the quarry entrance to the left, there will be 2 telegraph poles. The trig is directly opposite the 2nd telegraph pole. Parked on the road directly opposite the trig and made a quick run across the road to take some pics of the trig. It is leaning into the ditch, but it's still there. I didn't dare venture close to the trig for fear of falling into the ditch! Concrete base exposed, centre cap missing, FB faces the road.

This pillar appears to be slipping into the water filled road side ditch. It certainly looks different from the photos of it. It is now surrounded by large quarries, with monster machinery moving close by, kicking up lots of dust and dirt. It does not yet seem to be in anyone's way, so may remain where it is for a while yet, but if it topples into the ditch it will be a lot harder to find. Very sad looking.

Oh this was troublesome! Started off well enough by parking on the track which runs adjacent to the road, and walking back a hundred yards or so to the pillar where I slipped/fell into the deep ditch sustaining multi-scratch wounds with blood dripping profusely over my white (it had to be!) shirt. And what an unlovely setting for the pillar which has no cap and one sight-hole open. Definitely need secateurs for this one, unless you're prepared to dive down within the damaging thorns as I did. Hours later I'm still removing splinters........

The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. Pillar found alive and well... well, not very well actually. Poor thing is tilting to the side and forwards and looks in imminent danger of toppling into the narrow, but quite deep ditch between in and the road. My last pillar in Dorset so spent some time cutting it free from its straitjacket of bramble, thorn and ivy, putting pruning saw and secateurs to good use. Cap is missing, no plug; RHD side sight hole open. No views.
