Footpaths were signposted, but without any crops in the fields, the pathways themselves were completely indiscernable. Was worried I was treading somewhere I shouldn't, but I could see footprints from a previous visitor, so tried to tread where they went, like Good King Wenceslas' squire. Hope I've done no damage, but an incredible amount of mud stuck to my trainers. There's a lot of topsoil in the footwell of my car right now! Soz, Mr. Farmer! Pillar itself is easy to locate and reach, and is in good condition. It's only the second one in the seven thousands I've visited, too - numbers that high are usually very far from my neck of the woods.
