Parked in layby and knocked on at the farm and was given permission, advised horses might be a bit enthusiastic so the owner very kindly walked with us to the trig. Very muddy underfoot but trig in good condition. Very friendly owner who took an interest in the charity walk I was doing and was more than obliging, very happy I sought permission and restored my faith in humanity a little !

Not played this game since before the first lockdown. Parked in the layby but decided against a route through the farmyard given previous log indicated it was now a working farm again. Instead, I walked a few hundred metres down the A53 towards Leek where several gaps in the bushes allowed me to climb the fence. Then followed perimeter of field to the pillar with just one electric fence to navigate. Three horses were in the field and they came over to see what I had to offer but were otherwise non-threatening. Pillar itself is in good nick with original metal cap and indented lettering. FB faces north and 2/4 sight holes open.

Farm still boarded up. Trick to this trig is not to do the obvious and go uphill. Back of the farm, it looks down into a wild little wooded brook. Mow Cop beyond the edges of Gun one side then the stegosaurus of the Roach. Fine red and gritty trig. Can almost feel the changing from the Dark Peak's red crags to the White Peaks shapely pikes. A favourite place. On to the edge of Flash for a walk, martins have arrived and a possible last big flock of fieldfares too.

Stunning views from all directions on a lovely sunny, snow capped day.

I had to cross county borders to get the doggies drugs and since October 2020 the electric fence is no longer there and the farm is up for sale. Parked in the layby and hopped a couple of gates to arrive at this pillar. VGC and hope it remains so. A very active badger set a few metres along the fenceline with lots of tracks and "snuffle" holes in the vicinity. I dedicate this pillar to weighted blankets. Treated myself to one before Christmas and cant believe how well I have slept. Got the heavy weight version which "pins you down". Not a muscle twitch all night.
